Braided Halo (Sweden x Abused! Reader) 1

Things happen. People change. That was what your father had left you with when he was shot twice in the back of the head with a revolver by a suspect whom the police had failed to catch.

~Flashback~

"Daddy! What are you doing with my clothes?" You giggled lightly as your beloved father went from one end of the room to another, packing all of your clothes into a suitcase. He stopped to kiss your forehead and smiled sadly at you.

"I'm going to be leaving in about 30 minutes, okay, (y/n)? I want you to stay strong for daddy... And no matter what mommy does to you... I never want you to give up, okay?" He asked softly, looking into your innocent (e/c) eyes. But you were confused.

"W-Wait, daddy, where are you going? Who's 'mommy'?" You asked, tilting your head. Daddy didn't look excited. He looked terrified. This 'mommy' must have been a really bad person, you thought.

"I'm just going to be leaving, okay, (y/n)? You won't ever see me again, but you don't need to worry. I'll be okay. 'Momm'y' is who the men that will come in here are going to take you to live with. I want to give you some advice that I want you to use to deal with her, okay?" He spoke lightly, as if to not scare you. You were a bit afraid, but you knew; you had to be strong for daddy. You bravely nodded. He smiled a bit. He loved you so very much. Even after he had left you, you understood that. His early departure was not his decision, but rather, it was something that needed to be done.

"Mommy will tell you all kinds of bad things, okay? She will say bad things about you and about those you are closest with. Don't believe her, okay? None of what she will say will be true. I need you to do a couple of things for me while I'm gone. Never challenge mommy, okay? Never. Try to be nice to her. It'll be better for you if you always act like that around her. Never let her know how you really feel. Always stay the same way. Never let yourself change. Dress the same way. Talk the same way. Act the same way, or else she will 'punish' you, okay? Mommy is afraid of change, therefore you should be afraid of it too." He explained. You were a pretty smart kid, even at that time when you were young. So you understood the basics of what he wanted you to do. You nodded, but a question still played on your face. He raised his eyebrows, and you took that as a cue to ask.

"Won't that be a little weird to other people?" You asked. He smiled.

"Don't let anyone get close to you, and you won't ever even have to worry about what they think. Besides, you're my little angel. No one could possibly think bad about you." He complimented with a grin, ruffling your (h/c) hair. You giggled, delighted that your daddy thought you were a good little angel. But you still had one more question.

You stayed silent while he finished packing your little suitcase. He ran off into the house and did a couple of household errands. He slowly walked back into your room, rubbing the nervous sweat of his hands onto his faded jeans. Daddy checked his watch and his face turned pale.

"Shoot.... Only one minute left?" He said. Your eyes widened and you realized that you should probably ask your question. You opened your mouth, but just as you did so, your daddy grabbed you by your shoulders and looked you warmly in the eyes. He had tears in his own irises. This made you surprised. Your daddy never cried!

"You know that I love you very much, right, (y/n)? I love you more than life itself..." He said. You smiled, and your eyes filled with tears, because seeing someone you loved sad made you sad. You nodded and opened your mouth to speak.

"And I love you too, daddy..." You said and hugged him tightly. He stood up and away from you and looked out of the window.

"D-Daddy? Just one more question..." You said, implying that you had something more to ask. He crouched back down to your level and smiled.

"Yes, my angel?" He asked. You looked away, hugging your arms around yourself.

"Why is mommy such a bad person?" You asked. His smile turned sad and slowly faded off of his face.

"My dear (y/n)," He started, tears beginning to spill over the lashes of his eyes. He stroked your hair softly and closed his eyes. "Your mommy was once a good person.... But, (y/n)... Things happen. And people change. And your mommy? Well she just happened to be one of those people..." He finished with an air of finality. He smiled and stood up bravely, wiping the tears from his eyes.

"Goodbye, my little angel..."

~End of Flashback~

And there, right in front of your innocent little eyes, your father was murdered. You had been left there, screaming his name, his blood staining your hands. You begged for your beloved father to move, but you also somehow knew that his lifeless body would never be alive with warmth ever again. You let out a half-hearted laugh. You weren't such an innocent little angel, now, were you? You could hear your mother stomping up to your room. You swallowed thickly and turned to face the door with a small, fearful smile on your face.

"(Y/N)!!!!!!" She screamed at you, walking over to you and menacingly hovering over your spot on your bed.

"Y-Yes, mom?" You asked, trying to avoid her black, fearless gaze.

"Your teacher called me. She said you got an A- in Home Economics. Care to explain~?" She asked. Her smile held obvious evil intentions, but her voice was practically dripping with honey. She was a stinging bee, laying a trap that she was certain you would fall into. You flinched as her hand came down and met your face 'lovingly.' You looked down. 'Never look her in the eyes.' You thought.

"Ah, uh, yes m'am... On one of the extended response questions I got the question correct but failed to elaborate. So I got the 'why' portion wrong. Minus five points." You explained in a calculated, calm voice. Your tone was set and explanatory. You didn't put feeling into it, however you made sure to not let her mistake your monotone for resentment or attitude. If you were lucky, she wouldn't do her best. She smiled sweetly.

"Is that so? Well, that's okay." She stated, her voice sugar-filled. You were disgusted, but you trusted your father's last words long ago. 'Never let her see your feelings.' You closed your eyes and then opened them. At this point, most people would have looked up in surprise, thinking that maybe she would actually spare you this time. But no. Oh no, no, no, no, no. That was definitely not what was going to happen. You had learned that the hard way far too many times. Your experiences with your mother were very.... trail-and-error. But you knew that your punishment this time definitely wouldn't be severe.

'Never challenge her.' You had followed that rule. You definitely hadn't challenged her. 'So?' some might say. 'Why would that change her mind if she truly wanted to hurt you?' And you had the answer. The way your mother worked.... She had to have a reason. Always. You weren't sure if this was to justify her cruelty or just because that was the way she did things, but right then, the only thing that mattered to you was that the punishment wouldn't be very harsh. You knew her. She wouldn't be able to hurt you to the extreme for only an A-. You suddenly felt her cold hand lift off of your face and she swung it backwards, almost so fast that you couldn't even see it. You let your (e/c) eyes squeeze shut. You knew what would happen next. Her hand whipped across your cheek, and she made sure to curl her fingers so that her nails dug into your fragile, (s/c) skin, tearing it off. You winced at the sudden sting of cold air meeting the fresh wound, but other than that, you made sure no emotion came to the surface of your actions or expression.

"Just make sure it never happens again~" She leaned close to your ear, her hair cascading over your shoulder, and whispered. She gave you a cruel grin and left your small room. Your face almost immediately twisted up in pain and you cupped your cheek in your hand. 'C'mon, (y/n)... You need to overlook the pain. She could have done much, much worse than that, and you know it.' You encouraged yourself. You got up and walked into your bathroom and looked into the mirror. You winced at the sight. There were four long, bloody scratches across your cheek. 'I wonder what kind of rumor they'll start about this today...' You thought blankly. It was early in the morning, and you still had to get dressed for school. No one bullied you, but you knew for sure that there was speculation about you. In others' eyes, you were extremely strange and eccentric. You wore the same clothes every day. It was always jeans, a pretty blue top with spaghetti straps that tied around your neck, and sturdy black boots that were laced all the way up to your knees. You had a perfet record and were a straight-A student at your school, which didn't help the publicity. You didn't have any friends. None, whatsoever. Your father gave you all of that advice for a reason, and you were making the best of all of it. You never let anyone close to you. That was your number one rule. You refused to bring anyone into your problems.

You sighed and decided to go ahead and get ready after cleaning and treating the wound. You didn't bandage it, because you knew it would annoy you throughout the entire day. Besides, you needed to give the speculators something to speculate about, right? You put on your clothes and brushed your soft (h/l), (h/c) hair out. You began to work on the hairstyle that you had been sporting ever since you had come to live your mother. You knew you had to wear it some way that you liked and that would be easy for you, but would be something that you could wear all the time, no matter what. And you were really good at braiding. So you took three pieces of hair near your temple and braided it up and pinned it. You did the same with the other side and then you wrapped it around your head to make a sort halo. You did it in honor of your father, because you were still his little angel, even after he had been killed.

You sighed and looked at the dark circles under your eyes in the mirror after you had finished with your hair. Another sleepless night, but of course this was normal to you. All of it was. In the mornings you would be confronted by your mother for something you 'did.' After that you would get ready your usual way for school. You walked to school by the same route every day, and saw the same neighbors leaving their houses every day. You went to school and listened in on the gossip surrounding your appearance and reputation. You studied the same boring stuff that you had already forced yourself to learn. You took a test and were the first one done. You would eat the lunch you had prepared for yourself. More schoolwork that you already knew. You then walked home, rain or shine, and worked on homework. You took a shower and blow-dried your hair, wearing your normal home-clothes. A T-shirt of your favorite band, (f/b), and some black shorts. You then went to bed, worrying uselessly about the next day. You never got much sleep. But then again, you were worrying about nothing. You knew nothing would ever change. It was the same thing every day. You had long-since grown used to the way things worked. Your father said that things happened, and that people changed. You made sure that everything stayed the same. His words had yet to prove your lifestyle wrong. There was no one who had changed your life. As far as you knew, there was no one who could. Or so you thought. And you didn't care, in fact, you wanted things to stay the way they were... Forever. Or so you thought.

Little did you know that someone was about to change your entire world. For the better? Or for the worst? Well... I'll leave that for you to decide.
This is something I came up with on a whim. I hope it's good! Please comment and favorite if you like it!
